Psychological Testing

CReATE-session2

Psychological testing is a comprehensive evaluation procedure that measures and identifies important information about an individual’s current level of functioning. The terms “psychological,” “psychoeducational,” “neuropsychological,” “diagnostic,” and other variations are often used interchangeably to describe the individual assessment process and may depend more on the training of the psychologist who is conducting the evaluation than the term used to label the evaluation. All of the evaluation types use objective, standardized assessments, interviews, and observations and an individualized approach.

A neuropsychological evaluation is often considered the most comprehensive evaluation, and typically involves assessment of underlying brain functions, although in some circumstances, the social-emotional, clinical, and/or psychological aspects of the individual may not be routinely assessed. A psychoeducational evaluation may be more focused on academic achievement, learning style, and general cognitive abilities, although a thorough psychoeducational evaluation may include many of the same tests  – and a similar approach to interpretation – as a neuropsychological evaluation, when the psychologist has training in neuropsychological assessment. A psychological evaluation includes most of the same components as a psychoeducational evaluation but typically also includes a more thorough assessment of socioemotional, behavioral, or clinical domains. Ultimately, all types of evaluations focus on the identification of the individual’s strengths and challenges across multiple domains and can be used to better understand unique vulnerabilities and protective factors in youth or adults.

The psychologists of CReATE provide comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational evaluations that are focused on the needs of the child, adolescent, or adult.
