Sometimes children exhibit emotional and/or behavioral problems that persist over time, despite significant efforts at supporting them by parents or others. Children with challenging behavior or complex mental health conditions may not respond in expected ways to treatment or intervention services, leaving parents and providers feeling confused about how to help. Many symptoms overlap in childhood; for example, attentional problems and challenging behavior can be related to many different conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, traumatic stress, autism, and many others.
Adolescence and young adulthood is a time of tremendous growth and change, often termed the period of storm and stress. Teens experience a wide range of strong emotions and many are still learning how to deal with the intensity of their feelings. Currently, teens and young adults must navigate a wealth of stressors not previously experienced. Multiple diagnoses and treatments may have been tried with little success. Parents often feel overwhelmed by their inability to understand and protect their children; all of which is complicated by the shortage of qualified clinical professionals with expertise in complex conditions.

CReATE has been dedicated to understanding and helping with complex behavioral and emotional challenges for many years. Our team of psychologists specializes in child, adolescent, and young adult development, particularly in understanding healthy coping or development and alternatively, understanding unhealthy patterns or risk factors (referred to as developmental psychopathology).
The evaluation of complex behavioral and emotional issues at CReATE is a comprehensive assessment across many individualized domains depending on presenting concerns (e.g., emotional and behavioral, selective mutism, substance use, mood, anxiety, OCD, thought disturbance, personality, clinical, environmental factors, etc.), as well as the relative impact of these issues.
CReATE’s evaluation also has a strong focus on identifying and providing evidence-based, detailed, and prioritized recommendations.
