  • Children and adults with complex medical conditions often experience notable challenges related to everyday functioning such as managing school or work.

These difficulties can arise from various conditions, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), seizure disorders, cerebral palsy, premature birth, exposure to substances during pregnancy (FASD), brain tumors, or developmental conditions. Symptoms may manifest as problems with attention, hyperactivity, or managing emotions or may result in a more significant impact on overall learning and cognitive development.

  • At CReATE, the purpose of a neuropsychological evaluation is not to make a medical diagnosis but rather to determine the impact of the diagnosis on an individual’s functioning.

It is a thorough assessment of an individual’s overall brain functioning through examination of cognitive domains including intellectual functioning, language, memory, visuoperceptual ability, motor and visual-motor skills, academic skills across all domains, and executive function skills (e.g., attention, inhibition, working memory, processing speed, planning, and reasoning, and organization).

Additionally, clinical, diagnostic-specific and personality measures can be used to assess social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health domains. The results of the evaluation can assist in documenting the need for services, identifying strengths, and providing information to help parents and medical providers understand the client’s unique needs related to the diagnosis.
